We are extremely grateful for the community of friends that we've met
along the way through these songs. Many of you have played a vital
role in inspiring us to do what we do. We've always looked for ways to
connect beyond just the songs and the shows. This is why we began
putting out a free video podcast (now 32 episodes and counting!), the daily foot photo journal, the switchfeed
news feed on our homepage, the live studio camera, and our all-new
message-board community. For us, music has always been about
communication, and keeping the dialogue going long after the guitars
have stopped ringing. In addition to all of this, many of you have
been requesting, for lack of a better term, a fan club of sorts (maybe
a "fam" club?), and after much planning and brainstorming, we are
extremely excited to bring to you "Friends of the Foot."

What this IS:

A way for us to provide something extra for those that want it -- a way
to say hi at the shows without having to wait outside the venue; a way
to see what happens on tour and in the studio on a larger scale, with
updates on an almost-daily basis; access to rare out-takes, and other
downloads that a casual listener may not appreciate. This is simply a
way to do more, without taking anything away from what we already do.

What this IS NOT:
an elite club or clique. This is not about who has and has not. This
is not about who is a real fan and who isn't. This is not a dividing
line in the middle of our great community. This is simply a way for us
to provide a higher level of content and dialogue for those who want
it.

We are extremely grateful for everyone that listens to these songs,
everyone who sings along, and everyone who believes that these tunes
could be part of a story much larger than ourselves. Whether you are a
friend of the foot, or simply a friend, we are honored to have you as part of our family.

Q: Does the band favor the Christian rock band tag?

A: We are Christians and our faith is very important to us. But we try not to put ourselves in the label 'coz we feel that our music is for everyone. It's honest music that people can relate to. We feel that everyone should listen to our songs and make their own assumptions after that. We try not to put ourselves in a box.

Is recording the new album Nothing Is Sound on the road a preferred choice or the band simply has no choice but to do it that way?

Switchfoot Want You To Focus On Their Music

Switchfoot are generally known in the media for their two loves: surfing and Jesus. Neither comes up in our brief interview, so this is one Switchfoot story where you won't hear anything else about surfing or Jesus. Or, for that matter, the fact that two of the band members, Jon and Tim Foreman are brothers. With Switchfoot, those things aren't that important. They'd rather you focus on the music. Not the fact they're into Jesus or surfing or have a couple brothers in the band.

"As a musician I guess the only thing I would ask from a listener is to put the CD in, close your eyes and forget about all the peripherals," says Jon Foreman. "I guess that's a dream that may not happen in my lifetime, but I listen to music from all sorts of people and I think there is an open-minded individual who will be able to listen to music of all types."

The band just released their second major label album, Nothing Is Sound, and the response has been positive so far.

Jon Foreman was supposed to play a role on another album released around the same time, that being Daniel Victor's superstar-studded Neverending White Lights project, called Act I: Goodbye Friends Of The Heavenly Bodies. Victor's album features collaborations with Raine Maida, Todd Kerns and Jimmy Gnecco of Ours, as well as members of Finger Eleven, Alexisonfire and The Watchmen, among others.

"He gave me a call, he said, you know, he's doing a project with a bunch of different bands," Foreman says. "To give you a hint of how long ago this was, this was back when Remy Zero were still together, probably four years ago, four and a half years ago, and I'm like, 'Yeah, let's do it.' So he said he was in L.A. so he took a train down to my house, the place I was renting down by the beach and he slept on the couch, endured the rats, literally. There were rats at that house."

Over the past few years Victor and Foreman collaborated on a number of songs, including the track "On Fire" off Switchfoot's last album. But fans hoping to hear their contribution to the Neverending White Lights project, called "Throwing Chairs" are going to be disappointed as it was cut from the final track list.

"It's one of those things where when we first signed up for it it was something different from what it is now," Foreman says. "And also it was supposed to come out four years ago, and to have it released at the same exact time as our record would have been tricky for the record company to be excited about it. We're hoping on the next one, he says he's hoping to do a few of these. I need to give him a call actually, thanks for reminding me."

Here is another artist that we can be proud of. Did you know that Jerome Fontamillas, Switchfoot's guitar and keyboard player is a true-blooded Filipino? His parents are both Filipino, and are supportive toward his decision to make music as his career. They even forced him to play the piano at a young age, though he didn't like it then. During high school, he started playing the bass and guitar.

Before he joined Switchfoot in 2000 as a session player on the band's independently released Learning to Breathe album, he was already in the music business playing with bands such as Fold Zandura and Mortal.

Recently, Switchfoot bagged ten CMCentral Music Awards, which included Artist of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, Group/Duo/Band of the Year, Christian Artist in the Mainstream, Song of the Year for "Dare You To Move," Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo/Group/Band for their song "This Is Your Life", Rock Song of the Year for "Meant To Live," Rock Performance by a Duo/Band/Group for their song "Meant To Live", Short Form Music Video of the Year for "Dare You To Move", and Long Form Music Video of the Year for their "Live in San Diego".

Switchfoot Hones 'Sound' On Fifth Album

Rock act Switchfoot will release its fifth studio offering, 'Nothing Is Sound,' Sept. 13 via Columbia. The set will be available as a traditional CD as well as a DualDisc with 5.1 Surround Sound and behind-the-scenes footage of the band on the road and in the studio.

First single 'Stars' was recently delivered to U.S. radio outlets for airplay consideration and can be sampled on the group's official Web site.

Switchfoot wrote 'Nothing Is Sound' on the go during a world tour in support of its 2003 album, 'The Beautiful Letdown,' which has sold 2.3 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

After debuting at No. 85 on The Billboard 200, the album slowly scaled the chart, peaking at No. 16 in July 2004. It spawned the multi-format hit singles 'Meant To Live' and 'Dare You To Move.'

'This record was written in back alleys and hotel rooms far from home,' frontman Jon Foreman says. 'It's more eclectic, less settled, with more dissonance. We've tried to capture the emotional ride that happens on stage and put it into the studio.'

In April, Switchfoot took home top honors at the 36th annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, winning such prizes as artist of the year and contemporary artist of the year.

The group will be on the road for most of the summer, playing a variety of festivals and fairs. The next date on its schedule comes tomorrow (July 1) in Louisville."
